What is it?
A blockchain is a digital ledger which chronologically logs transactions or transmission of data. The most well-known application of blockchain is tracking cryptocurrency (e.g. Bitcoin) transactions, but the same technological foundation is useful for other secure database applications as well, especially those that require indisputable attribution of ownership. The CoCreateX Blockchain started as an experiment with the goal of empowering people share their ideas and collaborate freely, without the fear of getting ideas stolen. While it’s still being developed, we’ve decided to begin beta testing it publicly with our users.
Why would I use it?
Have an idea you’d like written into a personal digital inventor’s notebook? Perhaps you have a lunch with a friend of a friend tomorrow and you want to speak freely with her about your latest invention idea. You know she works on solving similar problems and you’re concerned that if you reveal too much, it could cause all sorts of headaches down the road. Instead of completely avoiding the subject of your new idea, you can log what you’ve come up with before your meeting, and have a more productive discussion. Simply email your napkin sketch, outline, or engineering drawing to firstname.lastname@example.org
How do I try it out?
- Email email@example.com with an attachment (.png, .jpg, .pdf, .txt) that contains whatever it is you’d like entered into the blockchain. Your document will not become publicly readable, as the entry is encrypted and hashed.
- Write down your hash in a safe place. If your email was received and your attachment was written in, you’ll receive an email with the Subject being your 64 character hash, or encryption signature, corresponding to the exact data makeup of your specific attachment. Your hash will be a string of numbers and letters, something like, c9f868985622414712265605aea9e22df034895863db53ccee0c2f87e709b3cb.
- Verify that your unchanged document is in the blockchain. By forwarding your blockchain success email with the original attachment to blockCHECK@cocreatex.com you can see and demonstrate that your exact document was entered into the blockchain previously. If your document has changed in ANY WAY, your verification will fail. If your email is deleted, all you need to verify your blockchain transaction is the ORIGINAL file (.png, .jpg, .pdf, or .txt) and your unique 64 character hash. Just email blockCHECK@cocreatex.com with the file attached, and the subject, “Fwd: <your_hash>”.
